The Design Leadership Foundation is committed to providing access and opportunity to design students, and programs like Professional Horizons bring that mission to life. This mission was on full display last week, when the DLF gathered at Mississippi State University for the 4th Annual Professional Horizons Workshop.
Over the course of 3 days, 16 industry professionals mentored over 275 students, offering career guidance, industry insights, and hands-on preparation for life after graduation. Through mock interviews and roundtable discussions, students refined their portfolios, built confidence, and gained a deeper understanding of the design profession. Participating DLN Members included Stephen Hackney, Ankie Barnes, Tom Kligerman, and Caren Rideau. This multidisciplinary group not only represent the best of the DLN, but provide a multifaceted picture of the possibilities for a career in design.
Now in its fourth year, Professional Horizons has given DLN Members the opportunity to mentor MSU students throughout their undergraduate journeys. Witnessing their transformation—from hesitant freshmen to confident seniors ready to launch their careers—reinforces the impact of these workshops and the strength of our community.
As we continue expanding this initiative, we’re eager to bring Professional Horizons to new regions and welcome the involvement of DLN Members and Partners who want to support the next generation of designers.
