The DLN is proud to announce a new partnership and resource to promote diversity within the design industry and our community. This new initiative follows the launch of the Design Leadership Foundation and brings an active learning program with accessible resource to all DLN members.
It is with great pleasure to announce that Dr. Kendall Nicholson will be working with our community on a new monthly Design Leadership Foundation Working Group Call the 2nd Thursday of each month. In an open dialogue format, Kendall will lead us to better understanding around the following:
- Building a diverse firm including employees, clients, and suppliers.
- Effectively managing diverse design teams.
- Supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds.
- How to champion diverse students and team members.
- Becoming a DLF Mentor.
- Becoming more aware through Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) training.
The DLN is committed to supporting the Design Leadership Foundation and strengthening diversity within our industry and our membership. The Design Leadership Foundation was created to level the playing field for students from underrepresented communities. Through the experience of launching the DLF and connecting with resources to help us understand the challenge, we realize how truly little we know and how complicated solutions can be.
Rebecca Birdwell met Kendall Nicholson last spring while he was at the ASCA to better understand our industry’s serious lack of diversity. It was an inspiring conversation from the outset, with Kendall’s easy approachability opening new doors of understanding. Importantly, our goal with Kendall in developing this program for our members is about open dialogue and understanding, not judgment. Come with questions, concerns, and ideas and let’s make a difference.
We invite you to join the DLF Working Group and the conversations with Kendall starting October 13th at 5:00 PM EST. Details to follow.
